Stefan Bucher

When Joe sent us the email about this lecture, I was hesitant to go because it was in CSULA and I had a very important rehearsal that evening that I couldn't miss. We had a competition the following week, and that day's rehearsal was canceled for everyone else except for the 8 of us. I was able to get myself out of it and they were upset with me, but in all honesty, it was definitely worth it!!! Plus, we won first place in the competition so I don't feel so bad about it anymore.

I was so inspired when I heard Stefan Bucher's lecture, and I couldn't wait to get out of there and tell my boyfriend about it. I know if he was there he would also appreciate it very much. I felt so empowered when he was sharing stories of his childhood and how he used to redesign ads and go back to the merchants and have them buy it. My favorite part was when he talked about following your heart and not worrying about the money, but worrying more about how you want your artwork to look.

The daily monsters that he draws are exceptional! Who would think that you can come up with hundreds and thousands of monsters just by blowing air on a blob of ink on a paper. He would! I am so honored to have a poster autographed by him on my wall. Everytime I look at it I notice a different creature on it that I hadn't before. My boyfriend is so inspired by it that he wants him to do his upcoming album cover. Boo for me! lol

Get Psyched!!!!!!

So, I would love to have a special edition for the tv series called Psych! I absolutely love that show and I cant get enough of it. The thing is that only the first 2 seasons are on DVD, so I would probably need to make up the 3rd one? Just wondering.

Yay for the the funny "psychic" detective from Santa Barbara! lol <3 For those of you who don't know. Psych is a tv show that is a tasteful mix between comedy and mystery. Shawn Spencer who has amazing detective skills thanks his father who is an ex-cop, and his friend Gus who is like a walking encyclopedia. So, Shawn doesnt want to follow his fathers footsteps to become a cop, but some how finds himself finding out information to help out with a crime. One time he shared too much information and became suspicious but luckily made them believe that he was a psychic. So Shawn and Gus temporarily get hired by the SBPD to solve some crimes. He uses his "psychic powers" to help solve cases, where in fact he is actually gathering information with his detective skills. he show doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is, but what it is, is a sharp, witty, snappily-paced crime mystery show.

ad ideas

My partner, Helen and I stumbled upon many ideas for our magazine ad series and narrowed it down to 2 final ideas that we cant choose only 1 from. Perhaps you guys can help us make that decision. So her idea will be posted on her blog. It's about a teeth whitening toothpaste. Here is the link to her blog. Helen

Ok so for my idea, I had a few but I think one of the better ones was an ad for a Nikon digital slr camera. I haven't chosen which model yet.

A brief history about Nikon:
Nikon is a multinational corporation. It was founded in 1917 as Nippon Kogaku Kogyo and renamed Nikon Corporation, after its cameras, in 1988. Nikon is one of the major companies of the Mitsubishi Group. Its products include cameras, binoculars, microscopes, and measurement instruments.

Target audience:
Basically anyone who is interested in photography. Such as, photographers, journalists, graphic designers, also non-professional people who like to take great quality photographs as a hobby or for the family album. I would say around the ages of 18-45

Competition:

Nikon's main competitors include Canon, Casio, Kodak, Sony, Pentax, Panasonic, Fujifilm and Olympus. Currently, Nikon's only competitor in high-end camera systems is Canon.

Strategy:
For my main idea, which will have 3 series, I've decided that I want to show the image in the digital camera window look way better than the actual scenery its taking a photograph of. For example, there is the image on the page of a house that is old, beaten up, the grass is brown and broken window and stuff, and when you see the image in the camera, it looks like a brand new house with green grass and fixed window. And then there is the tag line that will read something along the lines of "Capture the true beauty."

Visual Style:
I wanted to use mainly their signature yellow and black and also a little bit white negative space area. I wanted to for sure use the camera in there as well as a clever caption or tag line that will go with the images.
