Weekly BLOG #6

PROPEL FITNESS WATER

A few days ago I saw my co-worker drinking Propel. I was shocked because It had a new packaging and I couldn't find it anywhere online to post the pic of it. I know I could have taken a pic but didn't have a camera with me, bla bla bla. lol anyway. I just checked the website again and it is finally updated. Woohoo. I now present to you the new bottle of Propel Fitness Water if you have not seen it already.

From what I understand they are using a lot less plastic to make the bottles which increases the amount of liquid each bottle contains.. They are still using the logo on it but without the 'fitness water' portion. The only issue I have with this bottle is that the plastic seems to be a little too thin and it is kind of unstable and jiggly - if that's even a word. But that's about it.

Any thoughts?

Weekly BLOG #5

My not so weekly blog #5 is about Kraft's new logo. Uhhmm.. are they serious?

I think they the new logo of Kraft foods is very weak compared to the strong bold logo they used to have. It almost looks like a generic store brand logo. I'm disappointed!!!

I'm not sure why all these big brands are changing their logos to horrible, cheap looking ones. What's with all these "smiles" on logos now-a-days? It seems to me that they're hiding something behind those smiles. Maybe because of this economy, corporations are refusing to pay big dollars for their logos so they are getting similar work in return. But I say why redesign anyway? What was wrong with the original?? Gah.. this pisses me off. It almost looks like the logo for Walmart. Don't get me started on the tagline. LOL The only thing positive I can say about it is that I like the font for "kraft". Thats it.

I'm done venting. Your turn. :]

Weekly BLOG #4

Metallica!!!

I know the album has been out for a few months already, but I just ran into the packaging again and loved it more than I did the first time I saw it. If you have not seen it, here is the image of it.

The album is called Death Magnetic. The style that this album is made is way different than all the other albums that have been released by the artist. It has a shape of a coffin that cuts through all the way down to the last page of the cover. I think its such a clever design. It kept me wanting to flip the pages back and forth over and over again. One thing that bugs me on it though is that since the lyrics are on the pages that are cut out, some of the lyrics have been cut. In a way it bugs me but on the other hand it actually makes me wonder if they did that on purpose so youre not too attached to the lyrics rather than looking at the design as a whole and appreciating the dye cut over the page.

From the research I did to find out the artist I learned that the artwork for Metallica’s album Death Magnetic didn’t come from an underground artist or some corporate record label’s art department. Instead, it came from Coca-Cola’s design agency. This kind of threw me off and confused me about how I feel about it. :/

What do you think?

Stationery

This is not my logo yet. Its what I was working on and still is not finished.

Weekly BLOG #3

I found this article pretty interesting. We just might be safe. Even though the economy is going to boo-boo-land, graphic designers still may be safe thanks to freelancing.

Weekly BLOG #2

Coraline

Read the book? Seen the movie? I haven't, yet. But I've seen the website and so should you!!!

Check it out! It will keep you entertained for a long time. Which is what every "Entertainment" website wants you to do. I think it was very successful. It gave me a lot of inspiration.

The only issue I have with it is that it is very dense so it might run slow if you have a slow server.

check it out! Coraline

Weekly BLOG #1

before............................. after

So, the new pepsi logo bugs me. It feels very old fashioned for me. I think that they made it too simple and modern looking that. You can definitely tell that its pepsi, and I guess its gona take a bit of time for me to get used to it. I just didn't think that a successful company like PEPSI, Co. needed a revamp.

Here is a little journey back to memory lane. The evolution of pepsi logos throughout the years followed by slogan changes it's had in the past many years.

The slogans:
  • 1909-1939: Delicious and Healthful
  • 1939-1950: Twice As Much For A Nickel Too
  • 1950-1963: The Light Refreshment
  • 1953-1961: Be Sociable
  • 1961-1963: Now It's Pepsi For Those Who Think Young
  • 1963-1967: Come Alive! You're In The Pepsi Generation
  • 1967-1969: Taste That Beats The Others Cold
  • 1969-1973: You've Got A Lot To Live, Pepsi's Got A Lot To Give
  • 1973-1975: Join The Pepsi People Feelin' Free
  • 1975-1978: Have A Pepsi Day
  • 1978-1981: Catch That Pepsi Spirit
  • 1981-1982: Pepsi's Got Your Taste For Life!
  • 1983-1983: Pepsi Now!
  • 1984-now: Pepsi, The Choice Of A New Generation

Logos

I decided to design a logo for a country radio station 105.1fm KKGO. I have a few logos that I like. There is different variations on them. As of now, I am still unsure as to which one of these I am going to choose for my final logo.
